Even though my little Aurora is only 7 years old, I will be honest…the upcoming teen years scare me! I know how I felt and thought when I was a teenager, so I have some sort of an idea of what it coming. That is why I decided to review She’s Twelve Going on Twenty: Nurturing Your Daughter Through the Tween Years by Kim Camp. This is going to be one I re-read several times as Aurora approaches the teen years.

Kim Camp does a great job in this book giving numerous real-life examples of typical teenage girl behavior. She also goes through some of the parental responses to these behaviors and show the effects of the response on the girls. Every chapter is filled with how-to steps to really nurture a relationship with your teenage daughter. The book is divided into 3 parts: spirit, soul, and body. I love how the end of every chapter includes simple activities for moms and daughters to do together to apply the teaching from that chapter. We will definitely be using some of these in the future!

This book really spoke to me as the mother of an upcoming tween. I really hope I am able to overcome how I may feel like reacting to a teenage situation and act in a way that honors God and my daughter. This book really emphasized how important a deep relationship with my daughter is, and that is something we have now. After reading She’s Twelve Going on Twenty I hope I have the tools necessary to hold onto and nurture that relationship! This really is a great book for any mother of teenagers, or those with daughters that will someday be teenagers:)
