Nightly read aloud every evening has become a very special time in our home. The kids look forward to it and there are very few nights that we miss reading (trust me, they will not let me forget to read aloud!). When I was offered the chance to review a new book by Burton W. Cole called Bash and the Pirate Pig, I jumped at the opportunity! Just reading the synopsis of this book hooked me…and I knew the kids would love it too!
This book is a great story about a boy named Raymond who is forced to go spend the summer with his cousin Sebastian. Raymond would much rather stay at home eating potato chips and reading comic books, but instead his parents send him to Sebastian’s farm in Ohio. Throughout the book these two boys get into some of the craziest adventures (just imagine two young boys left to their own devices on a farm!). Raymond very unwillingly goes along with the antics of his cousin, who loves to talk about his “Fishin’ and Farmin’ book”, which is what he calls the Bible. By the end of the story, let’s just say that Raymond is a completely new boy in so many ways!
My kids adored listening to this story! How could you not love a book that takes place in our home state?! They were thoroughly entertained by some of the adventures of “Bash” and “Beamer”…I was just hoping Caspian wasn’t getting any ideas of stunts to pull here:) As we read through the end of the book I was so happy that I chose to read this book as a read aloud. There is a very important, not to be missed message of salvation at the end. It was so neat for me to see the kids process all that was going on in the story. They were very responsive to its message. At the end of the book, there is a sneak peek at the next book in the series. The kids are already excited for that book to be released!
So now that I have told you all about it, how would you like to win a copy of your very own? All you have to do is enter using the link below for a chance to win! We hope you and your children will enjoy this book as much as we did!
